On the Road… with the Lakehurst Historical Society

BLHS Talk by George Oglesby at the Jewish War Veterans in Lakewood.

On the road again with the Borough of Lakehurst Historical Society in January for a talk by our Vice President George Oglesby before the Jewish War Veterans Post 178 in Lakewood, NJ. The JWV’s requested a speaker on the history of Lakehurst-Manchester New Jersey and our Vice President George Oglesby stepped up in our visit to Lakewood hosted by Beth Am Shalom.

Beth Am Shalom is a reformed congregation in Lakewood, NJ is a merger between Temple Beth Shalom of Toms River and Beth Am of Lakewood.

“Temple Beth Shalom was originally not a religious organization, but a group of local Jewish farmers who founded The Toms River Community of Jewish Farmers during the 1920’s. All minutes were taken in Yiddish. In 1964 the name was changed to Toms River Jewish Community Center, a Conservative synagogue with Orthodox leanings.

In 1981 Temple Beth Shalom was founded as a Reform Temple, complete with a thriving religious school. ” Beth Am Shalom. The Society salutes George Oglesby for his service as a veteran in the United States Navy and the Lakehurst First Aid Squad.

George Oglesby spoke to the Jewish War Veterans Post 178 in January 2024.
